My best friend, Lindsey, worked for months to put together a surprise birthday trip for her husband. In August, Jeremy found out that he’d be spending a weekend with me and RP! A man’s dream. I think he was excited because he got tickets to the opening Redskins v. Giants game and the Nationals v. Astros game, but I’d like to think that a weekend with a fat beagle would have been a tempting offer on its own.
Tropical Storm Lee dropped a ton of rain on us and Friday morning was no exception. Unfortunately, my plan was to take Jeremy and Lindsey to Arlington Cemetery. In the rain. Luckily, they were game! We grabbed three umbrellas and headed out.
After visiting the Kennedy grave sites and watching the Changing of the Guard, we headed to Old Town Alexandria to meet RP for lunch. After eating, he had to get back to work (lame), so we headed to Lavender Moon for delicious cupcakes. The sun finally came out and we decided to spend the remainder of the afternoon at Mount Vernon. It was my first trip too and we loved it.
We weren’t able to take pictures inside the house, but we were really surprised by the bright paint colors. Jeremy also spent most of his time ducking. They didn’t make people his height back then!
RP beat us home and we had a few minutes to freshen up and get in the car to go to the Nationals game. We had great tickets and we had a great night cheering the Nats on to a victory. Jeremy and Lindsey are good luck!
When we got home Linds and I had an epic Just Dance 2 battle. The boys served as the peanut gallery and gave us a hard time. We relived our old dancing days and according to Jeremy’s video, we still have sweet moves. We were exhausted by the time we finally hit the hay.
We slept in on Saturday and took our time to tour the monuments.
We joined a bunch of other DC area Husker fans at Union Pub to watch our Cornhuskers take on Fresno State. It was a closer game than we would have liked, but a victory is a victory!
Lindsey also was a raffle winner!
I’ll be back with Part II of their trip soon!
Yay! Love the play by play and the awesome pictures. =) Miss you guys and thanks so much for a fabulous time!
It was so fun having you visit! Come back soon!
I love D.C. I took the Spaniard there when we were stateside for Thanksgiving last year. Looks like so much fun!
I really appreciate being able to play tourist in my own town. There are so many things that we’d forget to take advantage of if we didn’t have out of town guests!
