Get Out of My Head

There are many times when I read an article or a blog post and wish that I had written it first because the author expressed exactly how I feel. This was one of those occasions.

Two weeks ago, Mags posted the following link as her gchat status and pulled out a few quotes about The Great Gatsby.

I read the opening paragraphs and concluded that Drew Magary and I must have had the same AP Lit syllabus in high school. When I saw that his first rotten classic book was The Great Gatsby, I was ready to dismiss the entire article until I saw the second book on his list.

Crime and Punishment

I agree with EVERY.SINGLE.WORD. EVERY.WORD. Yes mom, even the swears.

That book still makes me cringe. I have no idea what it was about but all I know is that I forced myself to look at every word on each page. Miserable. I haven’t even looked at the book in ten years and I still hate it.

And then, the third book.

The Hobbit

THANK YOU! Why don’t we talk more about that stupid bard from out of nowhere? Ridiculous.

So Drew, while we don’t agree about The Great Gatsby (mainly because I intend to throw pretentious white parties), thank you for putting my hate for Crime and Punishment into words. Bravo, sir.

P.S. RP is a Drew Magary fan from Deadspin and Kissing Suzy Kolber. I don’t read them regularly (because I don’t always get the sports jokes without RP there to explain them – which also sucks out the humor), but they’re very funny (when I get the jokes).
