I left out one very important part of our trip to Madison. It was my first trip to Machine Shed. Machine Shed is like a less cluttered Cracker Barrel that doesn’t serve breakfast all day. I thought it was amazing. I had chicken and biscuits and couldn’t wait to make it at home.
Before we get into food pictures (and mine aren’t that great anyway), I’ve got breaking news!
The Colonel put a ring on it!!!!
Deez is going to get married! We found out last night that the Colonel popped the question post time at Keeneland. Very fancy! We don’t have all of the details yet, but I can’t wait to hear all about it.
Congratulations you two! We are so very happy for you!
Ok, back to the regularly scheduled program.
So, I fell in love with chicken and biscuits. This was not a meal that I grew up with, but RP remembers having chicken and biscuits with his Great-Grandma Green. When we got back from Wisconsin, learning how to make chicken and biscuits became high on my list of things to do.
Luckily, RP is a great cook and he made them for me! We had rotisserie chicken earlier in the week and chicken and biscuits seemed like a great use of leftovers. I made pumpkin biscuits after being inspired by Her View from Home and RP made his own biscuits. He hasn’t jumped on the pumpkin train like I have.
We found our creamed chicken recipe on On Pans and Kneadles and I found my recipe for biscuits on Sugar Crafter. If you want to be authentic, here is the Machine Shed recipe.
We pretty much followed the recipes. We did end up adding peas, potatoes, more milk and salt to the creamed chicken.
I made the world’s ugliest pumpkin biscuits, but they tasted fantastic. I’ll definitely be trying them again. Next time, I’ll work on prettying them up.
The pumpkin biscuits added a wonderful unexpected flavor. RP wouldn’t know because he couldn’t bear to mess with an original. This was the ultimate comfort food. I bet it pops up on the winter menu a couple of times.
Ok – enough about biscuits! Deez and the Colonel are getting MARRIED! EEEEK! So exciting!
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!
Also I’ve been craving a fried chicken biscuit – may have to make some oven “fried” chicken with pumpkin biscuits.
Oh my gosh – I think pumpkin biscuits would be PERFECT for a fried chicken sandwich. So tasty!
I really couldn’t be more excited for Sean and Dana. I hope she’s ready for me to grill her for all of the details.
yeah!! So glad you made the pumpkin biscuits! Aren’t they awesome!
:)
Yes! The pumpkin biscuits are delicious! I need to do better with rolling them out – the drop biscuit look wasn’t very pretty. I love having an excuse to try again. Thanks for the inspiration! Now I need to make your pumpkin hot cocoa!
Seriously that stuff is the best!! I’m going to share my mom’s homemade hot chocolate recipe tomorrow!!!
YUM-O!!!
