Aside from Christmas, I don’t go all out with seasonal décor. I always change my door decoration (currently a Big Red Husker ‘N’) but other than that, everything remains the same.
Since I became addicted to Pinterest, I have been inspired to take things up a notch. This has not been an easy task.
I went really wild and got two mum plants and three pumpkins. I intend to do some carving, but I’m going to wait until the weekend before Halloween because I’m sure our little neighborhood squirrels will turn my designs into dinner!
For inside, I found adorable pumpkins to put in a hurricane vase. I immediately ran into a problem. They didn’t fit. Shoot.
So, on to Plan B. I put them in a glass bowl. Fosse (my boy kitty) kept carrying them out by their raffia and redistributing them around my house. He always reminds me that there is a reason that we can’t have nice things.
On Saturday, I made an impulse stop into Whole Foods and walked out with cinnamon pinecones. This turned out to be my stroke of genius. Not only do I love them and think they smell delicious, but they appear to smell so strongly that Fosse can’t bare to be close to them. Win-win!
However, RP says that pinecones are not for fall. He insists that pinecones are Christmas decorations. I think they’re awesome and appropriate for fall. The answer I was looking for when I said “Hey hon, what do you think of my fall décor” was “You’re the best at fall decorating and I think you did the best job in the world. Everything that you picked out is the jam.” Is that too much to ask?
So I’ll ask you. What do you think? Are pinecones appropriate for fall? Here’s what my console looks like.
You’re probably asking yourself if I really only decorate my little console table. The answer is, yes. I’m hanging my head in shame. I have two cats. I’m playing with fire as it is. One day I’ll have a mantle that I’ll think that Fosse can’t jump to. Then, he’ll prove me wrong.
Here’s what the entire console area looks like. The pinecones aren’t really a focal point. I think the focus is still on the pumpkins. Actually the focal point is the sweet chubby beagle.
So, what do you think? Are the pinecones ok?
Pinecones are perfect for both autumn and holiday decor… repurpose those delicious smelling delights. Beagles, on the other hand, are the perfect focal point during any season and in every setting!
I couldn’t agree with you more. A beagle is just the thing to brighten up seasonal decor!
Pinecones are definitely perfect for Fall and Winter! It looks great, Bear!
Thanks Mags! I hope you’re ready for an epic skype session tonight!
Oh yes yes to pinecones! I don’t usually get mine out until after Halloween..(they normally make a statement on my fireplace throughout November) but – I think they work for now too! I have fantastic ones from back in 2005!!!(yes, they last a long time) when I lived in Houston and shpped at Crate & Barrel like 3 times a day.
Anyway – they are full of glitter and autumn colors. I’ll find them – and do a blog post for November.
RP was so happy to hear the after Halloween comment! He thinks they’re better for Thanksgiving. I love the idea of glitter pine cones! I am in LOVE with glitter.
Glitter is the best – I may have to do some major glitter projects later this Fall!
I vote Fall! Never Christmas. There are far better things to decorate with for Christmas.
I agree! I’m now tempted to put cinnamon scented pinecones all over my house (all year round) if it keeps my boy cat from being naughty!
